Each quarter has its own unique character and charm, and it is a great place to explore and experience the history and culture of Jerusalem.

Jaffa Gate

The Jaffa Gate is one of the main entrances to the Old City and a popular tourist attraction. It is an impressive stone archway and one of the most beautiful and iconic landmarks in Jerusalem. The first time we saw the Jaffa gate was in the evening, after a long drive on the road we checked into our hotel and made the the effort to go out again and we are so happy that we did. As soon as you walk through the gate your senses are elevated by the grandeur and beauty of the city lit up at night, it instanly made us feel awake again. If you have the opportunity to explore the city in the evening you really should as the place is calm and you have the chance to relax at your own pace.

Western Wall

The Western Wall is one of the most important religious sites in Jerusalem. It is an ancient limestone wall that is believed to have been built by King Solomon. The Western Wall is the holiest site in Judaism and a popular destination for visitors of all faiths. It is a great place to explore the history and culture of Jerusalem, and it is a place of great spiritual significance. Visitors are free to go up to the wall and as long as the local customs are respected.

Dome of the Rock

The Dome of the Rock is one of the most iconic landmarks in Jerusalem. It is a beautiful golden dome that sits atop the Temple Mount and is one of the most iconic structures in the city. The Dome of the Rock is a great place to explore the history and culture of Jerusalem and to experience the beauty of this ancient city.

Visitors enter the Temple Mount complex through the Mughrabi Gate near the Western Wall. The Temple Mount is closed to visitors on Friday and Saturday. The entrance to the site may be closed without notice for security reasons. Please check the status before planning your visit. While the complex is open for all to see without a charge, non-Muslims are NOT permitted to enter into the Dome of the Rock. Be sure to bring your passport as this is sometimes requested.

If you have any religious artifacts or articles on you, regardless if they are Christian or Jewish, you will not be permitted to bring these items in with you. Save your shopping for after your visit

Note: Even in the off season this place can get rather crowded so it is advisable to visit either early or late in the day.

What’s iconic about this church are the several mosaics which represent the 12 nations that helped with funding. The church’s scenic location and cultural significance are a must-see if you visit Jerusalem.

Visiting the Seven Arches Hotel

The Seven Arches Hotel is a luxurious hotel located in Jerusalem. It is a great place to stay while exploring the city and is a popular destination for visitors of all faiths. The Seven Arches Hotel offers beautiful views of the city, and is a great place to explore the history and culture of Jerusalem.

We didn’t stay at this hotel however we did drive up to it. The views of the city are spectacular and possibly the best viewpoint of Jerusalem. It might be better to walk or take a bus up to the top as parking is limited and the roads up are very narrow.

Taking in a View at the Mount of Olives

The Mount of Olives is one of the most iconic landmarks in Jerusalem although the olive trees are long gone, today the Mount of Olives is used as a Jewish cemetery and has been for over 3,000 years, it holds some 150,000 graves. In fact, it has been used as a burial location for Jews since biblical times, including the burial location for some of the most prominent biblical kings. It is a great place to experience the beauty and history of Jerusalem. The Mount of Olives offers stunning views of the city, and it is a popular destination for visitors of all faiths.
